As the holiday season approaches, some of you might have already booked and geared up for a holiday trip. However, besides plane and tickets, travel insurance is something you do not want to stint on to ensure a safe, delightful journey.

Besides making sure you got all the essentials covered, below are 4 things you should double check before making your payment.

1. Get the durations and destination details right

Make sure you got the number of days right because miscalculating the duration of your trip would invalidate the insurance. When you enter the starting and ending date of your trip, make sure you put the time zone in consideration and input the date you arrive home.

Some destinations are not covered or require a higher premium. Therefore, make sure your destination is covered, especially when you are planning to visit multiple countries.

  1. Report your pre-existing medical conditions

Your insurers have the right to request your medical record when you are aboard, so it is important to declare every medical condition on the list provided. Or else, your insurance is likely to be void if your undeclared conditions come up on the trip, or you might need to pay those expensive medical bills out of your own pocket.

  1. If you are planning on sports activities, you might be charged extra

If you are planning on conducting any water or snow sports on your holiday, you might want to check the list of activities your chosen insurer covers. You might be liable to pay extra for some of the activities, although sometimes they might not be covered at all if they are considered high-risk.  Always check with your insurer before purchasing your travel insurance.

  1. Make sure all of your belongings are covered

Besides baggage, you might want to check the maximum amount of claims you can make for other equipment such as ski pass and ski equipment. Most insurers include those as add-ons to your basic travel insurance policy and you should always make sure your belongings and valuables are insured in case of theft and delays.
